Spun cotton is the process whereby cotton fibres are wrapped and held in place by thread wrapped around a wire armature, with the outer layers pasted over to form a hard surface for painting. It’s a similar technique to paper mache, if a bit more fiddly!

This little elephant was inspired by the pull-toys of a bygone era.
